Default FMIC and a DV

Hi all,

Just had a remap from JGM, went OK but the car has a couple of issues that need resolving. Anyway, JGM said I could get rid of my Turbosmart DV by just bunging the hole in the FMIC piping and the small inlet pipe.
Now whilst I understand why, I have read on here that you can remove it on a TMIC but should keep it on a FMIC. Can someone (anyone) give me a definitive answer with facts not just "get rid cos they are chavvy" .

Whilst I like the sound I would prefer to mod the car with beneficial items, not ones that could damage it.

Oh yes, its a 96WRX with TD05-16g, FMIC, IK, 440cc injectors, 3bar map sensor, Full Decat and the DV - remapped with an ESL daughterboard by JGM

Thanks

It is fine to take off and blank on either a FMIC or TMIC.

This one always sparks up a good debate, I believe that a correctly setup atmospheric DV is by far the best to use with an FMIC especially for acceleration. I use a Forge 4010 atmospheric dv for a few reasons it has a very reliable/robust design, the ports are large allowing it to deal with a very large volume of air very quickly and the fact it can be setup to your car. I have set mine to only open once pressure above 0.3-0.4 BAR has been reached, this setup gives you great peak boost hold due to the stronger spring rate and traps some air in the system when you back off boost ( the remaining 0.3-0.4 BAR pressure in the system has to pass out through the turbo compressor). I have tried all the setups with the FMIC, blanked off, recirc and atmospheric and by far the best for driveability and acceleration up through the gears was my setup with the Forge atmospheric dv. Using this setup on my V3 Sti with VF35 running 1.4 BAR and approx 370/380 flywheel bhp I am running a PB of 11.80 @ 111mph at Santa Pod. I would defo run slower on the blanked and recirc setups as I found they killed the spool during gear changes I guess due to the large volume of air being thrown at the compressor.

Cheers Iain

Well I have tried the VTA route so I will blank off and try that. Does anyone have any opinions (facts) on whether no DV is better than a re-circ DV?

Thanks
