Default wheel offset question?

I am looking at buying some second hand alloys for my 2001 bugeye but the wheels i want are from a classic, i have been told the offset of these is 49 but means very little to me. Can someone tell me if these will be suitable for my car as i dont want to upset the characteristics of the car too much.

Thanks Carl

it wont effect the characteristics. i belive they are 17''s. if you have a wrx it is not a problem but if you have an sti they won't fit over your brembos.

Thanks for the quick response , the classic that the alloys are from had AP calipers fitted to it and they cleared on his car so you are saying that if i had brembos/ ksports to my wrx they wouldn't fit?
