Default Hawkeye exhaust fitment backbox too short

Hi guys got myself a full 3inch exhaust for my hawk sti

first prob i never knew about not buying the straight exit due to the diffuser so im going to have to trim the diffuser or just take it off.

next one is after i had taken my backbox off i offered up the new backbox and its bout 4 inches short of the centre section?

i have ffered up the new 3 inch centre section to the standard one and they are exact same length. any ideas?

thanks for any help

only thing i can think of is that as its full system from turbo back that the one piece downpipe is a good bit longer and so pushes the centre section further back to meet the backbox.

i don`t plan on fitting the downpipe until i have the money for an Andy F remap next year.

A 3" system won't fit a std 2.5" system if you want to mix n match anyway, unless there is a taper as part of the kit (e.g. Revolution system).

What make is it?

if you extend the centre pipe it will be too long when it comes to fitting the de-cat downpipe

Hawk dp is shorter, sounds like the decat second pipe is too short, hawk second pipe is about 4ish inches longer

4" too short is the exact length difference bewteen a classic/JDM and newage centre pipe, JDM and calssic have a longer centre as they have no seperate underfloor catalyst, newage with that extra cat have a shorter centre, does the mount at the rear of the centre line up or is it out by 4"? if you have a classic length Decat DP is will correct this. You either need to buy and fit a complete exhasut or know what you are doing.

all i had to do in the end was get a small 4 inch spool piece made up that bolts in the gap when i now come to bolt up my down pipe just drop the spool piece out and all is good.

I'd genuinely like to know how a 3" flange fitted onto a 2.5" flange as I didn't know it could be done.

MY05 onward STI exhaust systems are 4 piece, prior to this they were 3 peice, as said the dp is shorter and then there is a second section (either a cat on UK cars or a resonator on JDM's), then the centre section is shorter but the back box is the same as previous models.

Butty, I agree, a 3 inch wont fit a 2.5 inch unless its been modified to do so.

This is interesting, i think i may have been looking at the same exhaust system on ebay and i emailed the shop selling the yesterday asking if they sold a 2.5" system as i wanted to fit it to the stock DP and they replied simply saying 'hi, this system will fit your stock downpipe'

I still didnt go for it as i couldnt see myself how a 3" was supposed to correctly match a 2.5" DP....

Would be interested to here from the OP on this??

Are you sure ? number of components remains the same on all Newage UK Sti's, MY06+ have shorter dp and longer cat pipecentrepipe/bb are identical. But to be honest given the ops response meh!

I just removed MY06 hawkeye system. short downpipe, link pipe, centre section and back box.
3 piece system replaced it, long de-cat pipe taking out both cats, centre pipe and back box.
Exactly the same for all new age uk cars..............

Out of interest, can you tell me if that link pipe had a cat in it. I thought so, but my dealer yesterday told me different. Just trying to find out exactly what they replaced with the PPP. (prodrive and dealer seem to disagree!)

nope you`ve taken that the wrong way bud sorry for that was wrote in a hurry before a shift.

im glad of all replys and help

The 3 inch flange only fits the 2.5 as the bolts hole actually line up on the 2 diff size flanges??? wierd eh the holes on the new 3inch flange are slightly elongated so this does help, but on the actual faces of the flange there is enough surface plate to make an as good as standard seal.

oh the only other problem you can run into the the flange on the second cat pipe, is a domed one with the spring bolts. one good thing though as the 3inch flange is a bit bigger it just about fits over it and so a good seal could be had but you maylose some of the built in flex there.

think you have nailed it there think its just the my06 and 07 cars had a diff size downpipe and the 2nd cat pipe is longer but the length of the down pipe and 2nd cat pipe are actually the same overall as the other newage car.
