Default Recirculate or not?

Hi, I'm new so go gentley!!

Just got a 1997 WRX Wagon. It has a dump valve which at present is atmospheric but could also be reconected to the system if the blanking 'bung' were to be removed. Guy I bought her off recons it ran better recirculating but liked the sound.....now I'm 46 and don't give a toss about the sound, smooth power and better performance is all I'm after so....recirculate or atmos??

Thanks

Jon

I am having the same debate at the moment just on the opposite side of the coin.

My D/V is a recirc one and I was looking at a Forge atmospheric just for a little bit of sound.

So be good to know peoples opinions etc

Yeah hope so.....I had a cosworth powered Westfield kit car a few years back with a Forge valve on it and God that was loud!! It ran like a dream, smooth etc, held boost well too. Was running 280 bhp and no issues. Ran it on the cold side of the system, which appeared to work best. This one is a Greddy, according to the casting. Car just feels a little snatchy on and off boost, might just need a good setting up? Now where in the Highlands can I get that done??

Drynachan: PLEASE do NOT fall into the old trap of thinking that a Scoob engine is ANYTHING like a Cossie. it's not, and should not be compared. What the Cossie ran well with has NOTHING to do with the Scoob.

OK, now I've got that out of the way.......your car will run smoother with a recirculating type dumpvalve. It's what Subaru fit, it's what the car was designed with, it's what Prodrive fit and stick with when they tune, and, more than all those, it's what respected tuner fit and tell you to stick with

MattJ: just lean out of the window and shout "Woosh" on gearchanges. your car will prefer it.

I have a DV on mine and I hate the noise does my head in, do I need to get it remaped again if I go back to recirculate then?

It was mapped with the DV on it recently hence why I ask...

Re-circ for me, but try it for yourself... I think you'll find the throttle response is better with the re-circ in place.

No worries on comaprisons with the cossie....that car weighed 950kg with 280bhp! No seriously, I understand what you meen. Not a fan of wooosh anyway and anything that makes it smoother is more better!

Thanks for tha advice gents, Having looked at the valve again it looks like a recirc valve that has just been disconected and the other pipe blocked. Will reconect all and give her a run tonight....oh and report back.
