Default Mobil 1 now only making 10w/60 !!

Moved to Nottingham recently so had a quick ring round today to find a local stockist and was told Mobil have stopped making Mobil 15w50 motorsport and Mobil 5w50 Rally formula and replacing these with Mobil 1 10w60.

Always trust Mobil in my Scooby, originally used 15w50 but was a bit noisy when cold so was recommend to switch to Mobil 5W50 Rally formula which I've been using for the last couple of year, so was a bit gutted/shocked thinking I had to change to another make as (been said on here many times) 10w60 too thick.

Can any one confirm this?? time to stock up??

Looking at their website it seems to be true, although they do list Mobil One "peak Life" 5w-50 (whatever that is). Mind, Mobil One rally 5w-50 was always difficult to get hold of anyway (its much more easier to source in Spain owing to the hotter climate).

Time to switch. I wouldn't use 10w-60; It even states on the website its intended for older more worn engines.

Still, plenty of other good brands out there with more suitable viscosities. Motul, Silkolene, Millers to name a few.

5w/50 was the original Mobil1 spec. until it was replaced by the 0w/40 in the UK in the mid '90's

Thanks guys, but going to stock up I think.

Done a bit more digging/googling and found a Mobil wholesaler (supposedly the largest in the UK) and has a warehouse in Nottingham. He confirmed 15w50 & 5w50 rally formula being deleted but still some stock but doesn’t think it will be long before they are gone. The new 5w50 peeklife will only come in 200 litre barrels but both peeklife & 10w60 not available to them yet.

After having a chat about my Scooby he’s done me Stonking price on a box Mobil 1 5w50 Rally Formula £94.00+vat for a box of 4x4litres as they want to clear out the stock for the new grade. Had to buy a box as they are wholesale but that suits me. Picking it up this afternoon.

Anybody else in Nottingham interested his direct dial number is 0115 9201744(Simon).

Picked my up 5w50 rally formula Monday and dead chuffed with the price, about half the price I paid last time!!

My mate also order a box but of 12x1 litre and a box 15w50 Motor Sport having it delivered to his house, carriage was £15.00 per order so he’s having a box of gear oil Mobilube 1 SHC 75w90 12x1 litre as well. Dead chuffed with the prices as well.

Also Halfords have Mobil 1 15w50 Motorsport on offer at the moment £38.99 in 5litres.

The choices once the stock runs out would be:

Motul 5W50 Sport only £44 for 5 litres at http://top-oils.co.uk/motul-sport-5w...66f17d18489db6

or the best 15w50 I have used is the Bardahl XTC C60 15W50 which is on Amazon.
