i just prefer the apexi as its far less money and minimal loss compared to simtec given money difference and you get a nice hand commander on the dash with it to[sad i know]

i'm very happy with my power FC and its hand commander on my GT MY00. The issue with the MAF is indeed troubling but having apexi is the best value for money choice

i have heard lots of stories of people who haven't been happy with their simtec, i think idleing may be a problem, but there may have been a firmware upgrade to them now?

The cold start and idling problem is down to the mapper. as for comparing the two, its like comapring oranges and apples. one is cheap for a reason, the other is more expensive, more customisable, upgradable and all round easier to map.

By the time you add in cost of an Apexi and mapping you may aswell go for a simtek right away.

I had an Apexi in my classic and was about to go Simtek, if i had a classic now it would be neither i would go Syvecs as im doing with my newage.

Again far a much better ECU than the Simtek but of course comes with a price tag.

+1 why bother with a a old apexi when you can have new simtek for near enough the same price with a warranty on top, it just dosent make sense.

Simtek over apexi every time, but if youve got a bit extra cash go for the syvecs straight away, and just look at it as an investment, as when it comes to selling it you will get most of your money back anyway with simtek or syvecs...

Why is the Syvecs ECU so much better rated than Simtek?
Need some advice as I have to decide which one will replace my Apexi as I hit max. MAF voltage with my Q45 MAF and even small Apexi conefilter! ;(

Otherwise there is no problem with the Apexi and it´s a good and "cheap" ECU, if you use Datalogit to tune, I wouldn´t bother with the handcontroller myself!

banny,

i have had a look. it is a really nice ECU. spent a fortune on my motec which is a really good ecu and will do everything i want it to do. the only advantage i can see is it will be easier to map for the mapper. Am I wrong?

Solaris = Syvecs, the name was changed.

The Syvecs can have four independant maps "out of the box", the Simtek can have two. I think you can order a Simtek that can do four, but the price will probably be more.

Basic Simtek is around £1k fitted and mapped, anti-lag and launch control can be added on for around another £200 IIRC. No knock control at present, but is supposed to be coming soon?

Apexi is around £6-700 just for the ECU and commander, then you need to fit and map it, so will be looking at the cost of a Simtek anyway.

Syvecs has everything most people could want, but looking at their site it is £1249 +VAT then I'm guessing mapping is on top of that.

For 96MY SimTek fitted and mapped with ALS/Launch is £1116 incl VAT. Without ALS £940 inc Vat.

That is pretty much my take it on it and there are more mappers supporting the syvecs/solaris.

I have also been told the Syvecs is very good.

However some people may choose the SimTek ECU based upon what the car is being used for. My car is for everyday use etc so the SimTek for me was the choice.
If i was to use the car for track, sprint,Drag, hill climb etc the Syvecs would deffo be the choice. Think you can have upto 9 maps on the Syvecs too? Simtek is 2 maps (I have 95-99 ron low boost map and V Power with Meth on the other map high boost) Would like one or two more maps but not sure as the ECU works well for me on the 2.

Anyone who has driven cars on the same set up on different ECU will agree the Simtek over even the EcuTek software is a massive difference in how it feels.

Guess it's horses for courses. Just my input thats all.

Steve
