Default ENGINE LIGHT *****HELP*****

Right then Just on way home driving as normal (lil quick but not excesive) and noticed my engine light come on. I have to say I have been driving with very little fuel last couple days (petrol light just came on after engine light). There doesnt seem to be any fault I can feel when driving it I.E misfire or anything noticable. I had a look under the drivers side and can see x2 green connectors to check fans, boost valve, fuel pump etc but cant see the black connectors under there to do fault test to get the codes(as stated on here) I can see x2 black connectors nxt to the grn ones but they are already connected together (looks like someone has been under there at some point as blue masking tape has been used). I`m going to borrow a tester machine my pal has got to check the car, has anyone got a idea where I plug this in to do check and has anyone got a idea why there isnt a black connector as stated on here ? Your help will be much appreciated as I`m a very skint man at the min and i`m going to have to try and fix the fault dependent on what it is myself.

2002 wrx wagon bugeye k&n filter and stainless cat back.

The obd socket is directly under the steering column.

P0031 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)is in fact the 02 sensor and is located on the drivers side (right hand drive)before the up pipe.
Also is there a sepearate A/F sensor located elsewhere as Subaru having given me a quote for an 02 sensor and a quote for an A/F sensor part number 22641AA2
