Default HELP PLEASE knocking/clunking noise

Hi all I'm looking for some help please in trying to find out what has gone wrong with my 2003 wrx sti with ppp.

Symptoms-
Had driven 130 miles today and getting to the last mile of my trip and I started to hear a knockin noise which I thought was the mud flap catching on the wheel but it was getting slightly louder but when I released the accelerator it stopped but as soon as I touched the accelerator pedal it started again, does anyone please have any ideas what is going on,
Iv had the aa out in the last hour but all he could say was that it's maybe the top or bottom end!
Does this sound correct???

All help appreciated
And also a good garage in Lichfield-Stafford area.

Hello mate, don't rule out the rear strut problem common on these models ?

Found out today that the oil was low an needed just over 2 litres to top up,in the army an the mrs has had the car and(unluckily) for me didn't even know where the oil went, hence there being none in it,topped it up to the top but think the damage is done as the noise is still there although not as bad, just hoping it ain't caused to much damage.

Sorry to be a prophet of doom but likely to be bottom end failure.

For a guide to 'how not to do it'
