Exclamation IS THIS 'NORMAL'...?!?!

Do all MY99/00 steering wheels have these 'splits' in them?

Or has my one's leather just contracted over the last 10+ years and then split at that vulnerable tensioned area?

Happened to my MY98 too... I guess it's because of age and heat... Seems rather typical

Yep, same here and I saw it on a friend's car. Looks like that is what happens to the steering wheels as they get old.

Well, that'd certainly be plausible, if they were assembled by UK workers!

If mine's the original wheel, then it's only 40k miles old! It does look that young - the condition of the rest of the leather is bang on, for that mileage ballpark.

Thing is, outwardly and inwardly (save for a boost gauge and red painted 4-pots lol) the car is totally OEM bone stock looking - and I want to keep it that way.

So it'd have to be a replacement MY99/00 wheel that's better than mine.

Do any of the New Ages still have that style wheel? If so, what's the youngest MY?

Cheers - I thought the Bug had that wheel too.

I might get it.... But first I'm gonna put the feelers out to see if anyone has an umnmarked one (save for naturally worn leather, obviously).

Thanks dude.

Women round your way must have strangely shaped (and sized) bits for you to make that comparison!
