Best route is to give a detailed spec of your car make model etc. What block do you have for starters?

Have a look in the project section to see how people have reached 500-600

Best route for 600bhp? about 35k cheaper if you do it yourself, but it will cost you still, have a look in the projects area to see what is involved, but just lets say your going to start with a shell, the rest is scrap.

For 600 you would need a 2.35 build or 2.1 build, even a 2.0l CDB would maybe do, all with some decent headwork & a huge blower. You will also need uprated transmission such PPG etc. A aftermarket ECU such as Simtek or Solaris would be needed. You will need huge stoppers aswell & some decent fuel setup. This is as brief as i can be in regards to reaching 600 but there is loads of work involved.

A lot depends on whether you want to build something that's going to record some numbers on a dynamometer and then sh*t itself, or whether you want something that's going to function reliably and allow you to drive it every day. There's also a consideration whether you want to end up with a car that makes a tractable daily driver, or something that is pretty much only good for drag racing and driving to/from the strip.

As has been said, whatever you spend on the engine is also going to have to be matched with costly upgrades to the chassis and transmission. Even 500bhp is going to cost you a lot of dosh. Put a number on what you have to spend and we can give you slightly more specific assistance. Until then it's pretty much impossible to tell you what's realistic for that sort of money and where you should start.
