not for me mate a freind has the unmappable my98 and he already has an exhaust w/fastflow cat and a v4 sti intercooler (with ally Y piece) but still the same depressing 208 bhp ecu so wants a quick cheap bhp increase

I believe so, I bought a 3 plug PPP ECU off ebay and fitted it to my UK MY97. I have no idea if it was a MY97 or MY98, I don't believe there is any difference? It worked fine after the immob was reporgrammed to match the ECU.

It will fit mate, and all the above mods that you mentioned also, the only thing you will nedd to do is to possibly get the ecu programmed so thatit will start up bud, the 380cc injectors are correct, the intercooler isnt as big as a sti unit( needs the silicone pipes that you have though) but that will be fine, sports cat should be no probs but the ppp still retain the cat anyways, providing that you have an aftermarket(pref the prodrive but dont have to be) 2.5" exhaust then you will/ should see the 240bhp mark and an increase in torque.

As above, will fit ok if there hasnt been too many other "mods" done to the car as that will cause it to run badly
Engines between the MY97 and MY98 uk cars are the same.
