Pardon my stupidity, but I thought it better to ask rather than strip down the whole car searching for it MY98

In the passenger footwell. Remove the two plastic screws holding the carpet down. Under the carpet you'll see the ECU kickplate. It's held in place by 4 bolts IIRC. Undo these and your ECU is underneath

Passenger footwell. Pull back the carpet (couple of clips) and the ECU sits under the big alloy cover.

Once these screws are taken off, is it a simple unplug - plug for the new ECU??

I have never done this before (obviously ) and am wondering whether I can do it myself or is it better left to the professionals?? Might be switching my faulty STi 5 ECU with a P1 ECU...

Bollocks, I wish I'd read this thread sooner. I've just pulled out my ABS control box from under the steering column!

WRX wagon 96. (The same one I'm hoping you're going to remap this week David!) I assume its the ABS as it says Nippon ABS on the outside. Its only slightly smaller than the ECU box with a big multiplug on the bottom which is fastened in with an integral lever arrangement. I'm sure its not an alarm. If you stick your head under the dash and look up I'm pretty sure everyone will have one.(whatever it is)
