The other day when I was fixing a CEL code 45, I noticed that only the left hand rad fans worked on my car (MY96 UK spec turbo) when the green test connectors were connected. Is this normal, or do I have a fan/wiring problem to look at?

It doesn't seem to get too hot or anything, and it still drives nicely.

Thanks

CEL 45 - is a MAP sensor error!? I assume you noticed the problem when trying to fix the above.

The Fan(s) are triggered separately - (Cars without Air only have one fan).

Fan 1 kicks in first then if not cooling efficiently Fan 2 cuts in later.

Maybe you just noticed only 1 fan (the offside one) spinning at the wrong moment?!

Yes to the MAP sensor error - The soenoid valve was blocked up, and the sensor didn't get a reading. Not surprisingly the car goes better now it's fixed

I noticed the rad fans when I connected the green connectors so I could make the solenoids work when I cleaned them. One fan pulses, and the other (right hand) does nothing. Both seem to be connected to the wiring loom. As long as they shouldn't both work during test mode, the car is OK.

My car doesn't have aircon, but does have a 2 fan rad - I suspect it has been replaced at some point with an aircon rad. (At least it makes the summer's upgrade easier...)
