hi got a classic wagon import went 4 oil to halfords said its not on there computer?

10w40 semi synthetic is the standard oil, you can use a few others, 5w40 fully synth for instance, dont use a 30 weight oil, too thin, dont use a 60 weight oil, too thick.
Dont go lower than a 5w oil either.

i have been using this oil in my car 4 years now with no problems, it is usually on special offer as well.

Having owned 4 Classic Impreza,s over the last 11 years,I,ve always used 15/50 oil. Mostly Mobil 1. Never had any problems.

Could be worth paying the postage. The Halfords own really is basic stuff, and very over priced for what it is looking at their website prices.

I agree, if you are going to use halfords own semi, you might as well go to Makro and get the carlube stuff for £12

as i stated above i have been using this in my own car for the past 4 years with no problems before this it was vauxhall 10/40 semi, i couldnt see and still cant see the point in putting top brand oil in a 16year old car, which before i had it could have been run on any crap.

I don't get people when they skimp on oil in highly strung performance cars.

It's only around £40-50 for 5 litres of decent stuff and filter.

And if anyone spouts, "Yeah but 50 quid's 50 quid innit...", then may I suggest they offload their Subaru Turbo for something more appropriate to that kind of mindset: like a Kia Pride instead.

The thought process is almost oxymoron-esque.

Most owners go for Silkolene Pro S (brand name's been changed recently though) or Millers CFS in 10W-50.

You won't go too far wrong with these brands/oil weight.

silkolene pro is the only oil to go in my car(s)..
stick to the good stuff guys....for a few extra £'s its worth it.

Then they have no idea what oil these cars use, even subaru who built the engine do not recommend a 10w60 oil, what it will be is that company will have lots of 10w60 lying about and want to get rid of it, so stick with the 10w40 as recommended, you wont go wrong with that

If the 10w-40 is a semi synthetic the quality might not be as good as the 10w-60 oil, however as said above the 10w-40 is a much better grade for the car then the SAE60 so you made the correct choice.

Subaru dont recomend a 10/60 oil as the car is sold as a road car. I use mine on the track so i prefer to use the 10/60 for piece of mind not wantin it turning to water. Everyone to there own as they know what they use there car for but its always millers 10/60 for my scoob.

A 50 will suffice on track, though.

A 60 can, allegedly, cause cavitation - not good!

I understand your thinking, but bear in mind 10w-60 oils are essentially unstable and shear down very easy. So your 10w-60 very, very quickly becomes a 10w-50, then a 10w-40. A sheared down 10w-60 will not do as good a job as a shear stable 5w-40, 10-40 or 10w-50. Due to the closer viscosity gap between the two numbers they are more "shear stable" and stay in grade.
