scobby died tonight....help ???
Hi Folks, im a newbie to this site, so go easy.... I was out tonight in my 1997 uk turbo estate. Went to over take a guy in third gear put the boot down, and when the car started to boost it gave ( what can only be described as a all turbo noise and no engine noise) the revs then died and the car coasted to a halt. no smoke, no oil leaking, nothing. I opened the bonnet and discovered that a rubber pipe with an x on the top of it which is attached to the housing into the turbo had melted its self and was just sitting there, with a trail of smoke coming out of it. has anyone any idea what this pipe is ? i had a look at a scobby micro fis site and it looks like something to do with an emission system pipe, its a black pipe quarter inch pipe, maybe a bleeder of some kind, looks dry inside ??
I dont know if this has anything to do with it at all, the car wont start now, it will turn over, doesnt sound like there is much compression though. I removed the cover to check the timing belt was ok, which it is, the car is getting fuel ok, the pump is priming itself when you turn the car on, all the levels are correct, and no lights have came lit on the dash, anyone any ideas, really need her up and running a s a p ???????????

I'd give David at API Impreza a ring if you can in the morning. There a top company and I'm sure David will be able to give you some idea of what the problem is. Hope that helps

The X is on the crankcase breather hose.
I hope it melted , because if it blew apart you are having a missive amount of crankcase pressure, and that is not a good thing i am afraid.
