Advice on cel 33

Advice on cel 33
Just looking for a bit of help for a mate. He has an L reg wrx and its throwing cel 33 which is speed sensor (i think). On this model is it not a 2 piece speedo cable from the speedo through the bulk head and into the gearbox. the later cars have a speed sensor on the gearbox. First i need to know is cel 33 the speed sensor on this model and if so what do i need to check. Thanks...

yep 33 is speedo related. .it is probably restricting rpm to 4500rpm when cel is on?
although your car has cable drive the signal from speedo goes as a pulse to ecu.. the ecu is not seeing a pulse for what ever reason.. cable broken, or wire / dry joint / etc
