Default Idle and hots starting problems?

Hi All

I have an RB5 with an Apexi FC with hand commander mapped by a respected mapper of here.

I had been having problems with it not starting when hot after it was mapped i put a 2nd hand one in to get me by, then when it started to do it again, I had fitted a new water temperature sensor but this didn't sort it this time.

I rang the mapper who suggested it could be the cam or crank sensors, so I've swapped the crank position and cam position sensors idividually and together, with a friends that runs but on standard ecu,but this didn't sort it. (the Apexi may be a bit more suspect to tired sensors, but the local subaru dealer can't get me any till the end of june)

But now after swapping the sensors and putting my old ones back in it has started idling at 2500rpm! I have cleaned out the ISCV, and disconnected the battery overnight but still no better.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

if you have a commander, check the airflow mv on the monitor screen.. if less than 1080mv then fine otherwise the maf has failed

Did you disconnected the battery/resetted the ECU when changing the cam- and cranksensor?

Mine was like yours when trying to start when the engine was hot, and it was the crankshaft sensor. Did you have this problem from the day 1 after the mapping?

Just checked the Maf, its reading 1.04v on ignition then between 1.8-1.9v when idling just over 2000rpm.

Tried my old Maf (replaced when fault finding on a different occassion which turned out to be a dying turbo), and it gave the same readingsand no difference to the problem.

At a bit of a loss now, as I think the only reason it is starting is due to the idle being so high and that if i replace the ISCV, I'm still going to return to the original problem of it not starting when hot.

maf seems fine then.

try plugging the original ecu in and turn the ignition on and off a few times wihtout starting car (the cam and crank sensor wiring would need swapping back to start it)

the original ecu is a lot more complex at adjusting the stepper motor for the idle.
you may find the apexi is just not resetting it and assuming the position is where it thinks it is but it is in fact totally wrong hence the idle issue.
The original ecu will totally close and then set the position so many steps from closed.

I've not got the original ecu any more as it was a prodrive one, but a standard UK MY99 ecu should still work.

I'll try get hold of one and give it a whirl, I should be able to use the plugs to see if it brings up any error codes whilst I'm at it.

Thanks
