Default Strange power problem

Hi guys,

Yesterday, shortly after starting my scooby (RB5) (so it was cold), I noticed that in 3rd gear at approx. 3k rpm the car was sort of lurching back and forth - as though the power was intermittently cutting out and kicking back in every couple of seconds. This only seemed to happen when I remained at a steady 3krpm - accelerating wasn't a problem (no lurching), just when I maintained an exact speed. The problem didn't appear to be there are higher revs either.

Just took him out for another spin this morning and the same thing is happening - at between 2.5k rpm and 3krpm it's still lurching.

It does seem to disappear when the car is warmed up though.

I'll book him into a scooby specialist soon, but just wanted to post to see if anyone had any ideas as to roughly what it might be. Could it be a turbo problem?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Just had a thought - would going from regular unleaded to V-power cause a problem? Would the ECU in an RB5 map itself to regular unleaded?

I ask because the guy before me ran it on regular unleaded, but since I bought it a couple of months ago I've only run it on V-power.

Anyway, any thoughts/opinions appreciated! Cheers guys.

sounds like normal cold running 99 ecu issue.. the ecu goeds into closed loop fuelling using the lambda sensor too soon and engine still cold.

Thanks Simon.

So is this a problem that needs fixing, or just a common issue that won't cause any harm?

Just don't want the car to clap out on the motorway!

Cheers

Part throttle (going at a steady 2.5-3k rpm), and yeah only when cold.
