will a 2004 wr1 engine,fit into my 2001 wrx bugeye
hi.just after some advise, as title really as my 2001 wrx is knocking its **** off. and there is a lad which is local to me that has crashed his 2004 wr1. the question is,will the wri engine go in without hassle? this wr1 engine is purely the engine no turbo, wiring etc as the car set alight and the engine had some minor fire damage.so will all the stuff off my engine fit the sti engine? i also got told the i may have to get the heads swapped for my heads because the sti engine has variable valve timing.also my is fitted with the ecutek.will that still work? what power can they run?

The heads on the wr1 engine are all good and are still on the engine. I just don't know what will need changing from my knackered engine. I mean if I can use the heads which are already on the sti engine it will save time and more money. So will I have anymore trouble? Or will they both have to be striped down so that i purely use the sti bottom end?? Forgive me for being thick.

But would it run the same if I just took the heads off my engine and fitted to them to the wr1 engine? So just basically changing the bottom end. Would that work? And also what power can they run? Also what sort of money are the avcs heads worth?

Seems alot of hassle this.
No turbo? Yours is a TD04 which is not worth putting on a WR1 which has a VF35.
Also I doubt the ECU's are compatible and the wiring loom is probably different aswell.
I would just get a replacement WRX engine complete.

produce? Also. What would the heads from a wr1 engine be worth??
Thankyou very much for this advice

If heads in good order they seem to fetch about £350-400 in uk market from wat i gather.
The power will be exactly the same as it was before. The short motor by itself cannot produce extra power.
cheers

This is a very straight forward swap
remove the heads of the wr1 longblock , use the shortblock off the WR1 with all your ancils.
Sell the AVCS heads with all the pulleys for £400-£450, its a stronger bottom end compared to your block so with the correct supporting mods it can run good power.
You will not encounter any gearbox housing issues whatsoever mate.
