Default smr engines

Hi people.
Has anyone bought a recon engine from 'smr engines' ? Are they any good?
Cheers.

Click search and use the term you've put in the inverted commas. Suffice to say you'd be well advised to avoid them like you would your sister's 16 year old syphilitic friend.

Thought they'd changed their name (again) to Ideal Engines.

There is a guy on our local subaru forum who employed a local garage to source and fit him a recon engine.

£2200 later he picked it up, took it elsewhere for mapping....It blew up on the rollers.

They took the engine out to investigate, found case bolts loose and even some of the bolts were to short so had little thread.
There were also bolts in the sump! They compiled a 20 item list of things wrong...With the main one being it wasnt even a recon engine..

The engine came from SMR, so throw SMR into the mix with the dodgy garage that supplied and fitted the engine and it will only end in tears!

avoid these cowboys like the plague i bought an engine from them (lucky enough i paid for it on a credit card) it took two months for the engine to arrive. the engine had not been recon'd they just spray it silver. i dont think the even change head gaskets they also take more money off your card than there supposed to. when you complain you get no where and and refunds take months to get back trust i learnt first hand. best thing to do is rebuild your own engine. speak to dave at api he was very helpful with my rebuild which is now running a dream. if you do it yours self you no its done right!!!!!!!

I too have had my fingers (credit card) burned by these cowboys.

Steer WELL clear and get a proper build done at API or some other reputable Subaru specialist engine builder.
