Potential piston slap ?
Hi
When my car is on idle and anything under about 1800 rpm there is a ticking noise thats a deeper sound than tappets.. im quite sure its not the tappets but im new to boxer engines and due to the way the layout is i find it hard to pinpoint.. any ideas ?
its a 93 wrx sti
Thanks

Hi mate i have piston slap on my 98 scooby. Sounds like the pistons gonna come out the bonnet when starting from cold but ok when warm and fine when boosting and normal use. I have now done 12000 miles like it and not been a problem. Best way to tell is by stethescope to determine where the knock is comig from or just use a screwdriver with your ear on one end. A bottom end will get worse under load but slap will go away under load.Hope this helps.
