Running Full Decat System (2.5")
I've got a 97uk turbo, which I've purchased a decat down pipe and decat centre for. Already have a prodrive backbox on. I've been searching around on here to find out if it is safe to run the full decat system without a remap?? Many thanks.

I've got a MY99 UK turbo with a full decat H&S exhaust and have been running the car for 2 years ( 30k miles ) with no ill effects. The previous owner was running the car with a full decat for some time as well.
CEL never comes on even after hard driving and there is now 108k on the clock.
Have I just been incredibly lucky?

Any change in spec as the potential to alter an engines requirements re fuelling, timing, cooling etc , the ECU can cope with minor changes and will adjust some setting like fuel to suit, but often what starts with a air filter ends up with an exhaust system, boost changers etc these cumulative changers soon pass the limit at which the ECU can compensate so a remap is the only way to ensure the settings are correct at a specific spec, some people are lucky and suffer no apparent damage despite various mods but it’s a lottery and depends on lots of factors, your driving style, fuel used etc etc to be safe it needs remapping because damage caused by incorrect fuelling and timing is usually terminal.

It probably is best as you get the most out of it, especially the 1997, I had mine mapped and it got another 30bhp out of it, it also sorted the air fuel ratio out, I had a walbro fuel pump fitted before the map as well. I also had to change the ecu to get it mapped
