Default HELP WITH TURBO AIR INTAKE PIPE

TURBO AIR INTAKE PIPE

noticed its bust a little on one the the intakes so i need to replace it

do i have to take the manifold off or will it slip underneath it ?

seems a pretty big power loss will this be correct ?

Yep, think manifold has to come off and change it as soon as, as it`ll run lean. I had one split underneath and ended up melting No.4 piston.

Ive seen it removed and put back on a classic in 30 minutes but i think its more tricky on a newage

Because the std. item has several "branches" that are "knotted" round the inlet manifold.

I tried to fit a silicon item, and still had to lift the inlet an inch to get it on properly.

does this leak result in a big power loss ? and lack of boost ?????

Usualy boost on/off/on/off feeling if you get me up the rev range.. And yes manifold off. Don't boost car til fixed.

The loss of power and boost is not the main problem. As the extra air being sucked in is after the MAF sensor the car will not be fuelling properly and as previously commented will eventually cause major engine damage requiring a rebuild at best new engine at worst, unless you want more power. The loss of power will be due to the ECU sensing detonation and adjusting the timing to get rid of the Det, thus lower power.

Manifold of mate, if you are handy with spanners should be about a 3 hour job!! have had mine on and of 3 times lately trying to chase down a air leak. It is a bit of a pain in the **** of a job i am afraid.

on and off in 30mins well done that man, I however couldn't see anyway of getting it off my 99 Classic with the manifold in place, even with the manifold off it's tricky to extracate, fuel lines, carbon can pipes etc all get in the way and need loosening or removing to release it without resorting to brute force or a large hammer.

i had the same issue till saturday when a very very nice man reversed my inlt to reduce pipe work and get rid of that pipe

much cleaner throttle now

Sorry wasnt clear mate. it was a samco pipe removed then refitted. didnt have to worry about the other bits on original pipe
