Default Have a chance to buy a WRX, but... CAT!?

Hi guys. Might be able to get me a Classic WRX, but it's an MOT failure on a couple of things including needing a new CAT. I've heard the garage wants something like £500!?

Is this correct? Not sure if he's quoting brand new prices or something, do they come up on here/ebay for sale often?

How much would you say is a decent price for an M-reg import with around 120km on the clock... thanks!

Doesn't need a cat as classic imports get an easier emissions test (unless the rules have changed in the last year)

Doh forgot to say pre July 95 imports only.

Incorrect, any car fitted with a catalytic converter after 1989 needs a cat, it wasnt until 1993 that all cars NEED a cat fitted by law.

The part you need, if you didn't already know, is a stock or standard downpipe. These are usually pretty easy to find in the classifieds here, on Ebay, or from a reputable Subaru breakers' (Grade-A Subaru, for example). You should see plenty of change from a ton, even delivered.

Really? That's great news. There seems to be quite a big Scooby crew up in Essex so maybe I should hunt some specialised garage to fit it for me or even a member from here if you want the job? I wouldn't actually be getting the car until September anyway as insurance is a joke until I hit 26! But I'd be getting it off a family member so it's not going anywhere until then anyway

I have a 98 uk model and it passed its mot with a de-cat exhaust. Technically it shouldn't have but they passed it with an idle test on a subaru other on the sun machine. But he did tell me had it been an import it does not need one!
