Heater control and thanks
Just got my first subaru (95 wagon) and with the help of some old posts have got it running sweet, i think! I cannot believe how nice these cars are to drive, so thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge.
I have been searching for some info on the heater control dial, is it electrical or cable operated? and does this dial just direct the airflow around or through the heater matrix depending on the setting?. Mine is broken and when i pulled the dial off the front it wasnt connected to anything behind. I now know i should have checked it before buying the car but i live somewhere hot and never really use it. My concern is that i have changed the coolant and have read that you need to have the heaters on hot when refilling, but if the control just directs the airflow over the matrix it should be ok?
One last question, i live somewhere abit warmer than the uk,20-30deg, is there anything else i can do to help keep my subaru cooler, it runs half way on temp gauge all the time at the mo. Thanks again.

Heater controls are electric on the classic, servo motors on the heater box flaps. Poke your head in the footwells and you'll see them. Mine runs half way on the temp gauge all the time. (94 WRX).

thermostats and icv
thanks for the replys, the thermostats you mention, do they open wider to allow a higher flow rate or do they just open at a lower temp?
I have another question aswell, after cleaning my icv i tried to lower my idle by rotating the icv cap with the engine running at normal temp. The idle dropped from 1100 to 900 but would not drop any lower, i read on here that the idle should be 750-800. Is there a mechanical idle adjuster aswell as the icv? I have a spanish 95 wagon so i think its the same spec as the uk wagon, its also standard apart from an after market back box. Thanks again, you lot are really helping me.

no, it sounds great, but is there any way to adjust the idle or is it all done by the ecu? all my other lesser cars have had some sort of mechanical screw or stop. can a dirtyish air filter cause a higher idle? awaiting new filter! cheers
