may sound like a deft reply but have you got the 3 fuel pipes the right way round?

Are the injector/coil pack plugs connected in the right order?

id say check the fuel lines are round the right way, if not then id say injectors, did you put the jap ones on the uk engine?

you'd at least get some coughing and backfiring if things werent in the right order.

edit - if you say it runs when you spray fuel in then i defo say injectors.

the engine has done 40k miles and the injectors and everything were alreadiy in place so i assumed it would all be good.but the injectors are electric that lead up to the wireing underneath the intercooler

did you check the above, ie injector/coil connectors. Did the earth on the inlet manifold go back on, the one by the fuel filter? Is your fuel pump priming the system when the ignition is onn before starting?

So, you get the 2 second fuel pump prime?
You say you have a spark, doesn't mean there in the right order. Check the black connectors are joined to the rear plugs, grey to the front. Same for the injectors, if i remember, the dark grey are the back two, light grey the front.
If either of these are wrong, the plugs/injectors will be fired at the wrong point.
Have you done an error code read? Two black connectors under the dash?

Im not a 100% on this but does the import injectors not run at a diffrent voltage to the uk ones. I think at a lower voltage hense not opening injector. No doubt someone with a bit of knowledge will correct me....

not 100% sure but dont think a jap ecu can run a u.k engine all the emissions are different and different voltages supplied.Fuelling set up is also different so maybe not getting enough fuel to start engine and probably not enough voltage to open injectors.

Hi, you say you re-wired the loom, did you swap both the cam and crank sensor wires on the ecu plugs?
