Is a 99 classic Maf compatible with a 2001 newage bugeye?

As above, I am trying to diagnose a problem with my wrx, a mate has offered me the use of a MAF from a classic 99 WRX, are these compatible with earlier newage WRX's uk spec?

Not 100% sure, but I think the the cassette is shaped differently???
