Default Coolant mix

Is it true that you need to run a 50/50 coolant mix to aid better cooling in a classic impreza?

The raw coolant does have heat-absorption properties itself, so the greater its proportion to the water, the greater the cooling effect.

50/50 is more than enough though, and will also protect against the coolant mix freezing up til around -30deg C IIRC...

50/50 is also required to aid against corrosion as well. Which will in turn maintain good cooling (along with changing as per the service schedule before it goes acidic).

90% of cars on the road require 50:50 mix.

Just take note when buying antifreeze that you can get concentrate or premix; premix is already diluted 50:50. whilst the other requires water to be added to gain the correct concentration.

Yeah, forgot to mention about the 3rd, anti-rust, property

If you can, use deionised water - not essential, but it's is as pure as you're gonna get, so further helps...

If you have a genuine, repeating overheating problem, then you have a circulatory issue i.e. blockage/failed water pump/failed stat in closed position/airlock/HG failure/serious furring in block's waterways or rad's core, etc...

Summat to do with the small hose that goes to the turbo isn't it? Do you leave the header tank cap on or?

- Remove the header tank pressure cap.
- Disconnect the header tank's large (turbo) hose.
- Disconnect the narrow bleed pipe from header tank to rad's end tank nipple (disconnect at rad end).
- Using a large funnel stuck in the turbo hose, slowly fill the system up without letting the pool disappear in the funnel (or otherwise air may get in).
- Keep filling until coolant issues out of that narrow bleed pipe.
- Reconnect that bleed pipe/turbo hose/pressure cap.
