Question 2003 Sti Type Uk Boost Readings?

Hi,

Can anyone tell us what boost an Sti should be running? Apart from a decat on the centre section its standard.

I fitted a prosport boost gauge (bar) yesterday and wanted to ensure it runs as should. Under load in all gears I get a maximum of 0.5 bar (7 psi). Is this correct? As it holds this all the time, no over boosting or under boosting.

Thanks in advance

That seems really low to me. Are you sure you've fitted the gauge properly? Do you see negative boost at idle?

My 2005 STi runs at about 18-20psi depending on the weather conditions...

At idle it reads just negative of the zero. I fitted the boost pipe off the actuator by a tee piece. Is this correct?

Think you may have tapped the wrong pipe. You should see a good 6-12psi of negative boost. I tap mine off the dumpvalve on the intercooler.

Mine is also tapped off the dumpvalve line, this seems to give a good reading.

If i`m thinking correctly as to where you have connected it, you are seeing the pressure used by the control valve to open the wastegate via the actuator, not the boost created by the turbo..

If your friend has the same fault, then you are clearly tapping it from the wrong place. As said previously, remove it from there, and tap the hose that goes to the dumpvalve on the intercooler.

I fully understand what you reccommend to do, but wanted to know what I was actually measuring for peace of mind. I'll get a id4mm coupler to put it back to standard then tee into the pipe that comes off the dump valve.

Then try again, fingerscrossed it will work as the turbo comes in and onwards rather than working after you let off the throttle. lol

Cheers all for your help

My mate had his like this for 2 years until I mentioned it to him today and his does the same..............................................

Put back to standard and tee'd into the dump valve line as mentioned by Bicco and ScoobyDoo69.
Now working correctly, thanks to you all for the advice.

Now reading just short of 1 bar (14psi) under load. I would say approx. 12psi?

Anyone think this is wrong for an STi?

Cheers all
