Question

My wipers lift of at aprox 80MPH is this common to Subaru or do I need new wiper arm springs(had to let a Mondeo V6 beat me today as I could not see a thing.)

Question

Have u got the wind jobbies fitted?
They should in theory stick to the window more the faster you go.

Since going over 70mph is illegal then the following is all theoretical OK.

If my car WERE to go over 90mph then I feel that the wiper blades would indeed lift from the windscreen thus resulting in a total loss of visibility. And I have the spoiler blades fitted.

Just in case the need ever arose when excess speed was allowed, I use RainX so you don't need wiper blades above 68mph. Get some really strange looks from people though, driving in rain without the wipers on.

You can try gently bending the arm, so that the wiper presses on the glass better and firmer. You might gain slightly by this.

Mine lifts slightly and just smears in the middle about a 2inch square.. at about 90mph... on a private road of course.

I went with RainX which works really well in heavy rain - you don't need the wipers on at all. It can be a pain in really light rain as it tends to sort of mist up / smear.

Depends on how often you are travelling on Autobahn's I suppose

Try Bending the arm, mmmmmmmmmmm
Don't know if I'd try that on my car but thankfully shouldn't ever need to, I have a MY98 and the arm(drivers side)has a spoiler fitted to it which creates downforce and keeps it on the screen.
Just recently had new blades (bosch and they're great) and when selecting size from their catalogue they listed blades with and without spoilers on...I had to go out and check if they were on my blades or arms. Think they cost a little more with spoiler on the blade but well worth it if it's gonna keep your screen clear.
Believe me I'm up and down the M1 5 days a weeks and on occasions I do reach speeds over 70mph only going with the flow of traffic of course never had problems with lifting blades.
hope this helps...melon

The arm is bent already and a little extra curve won't hurt... they start to straighten up with the pressure of the springs pushing them onto the screen.
Obviously don't put much pressure on it as it is not needed.

They all come standard with a spoiler on the drivers side....
but this doesn't perform miricles.

Thumbs up

JGM,
Point taken mate just had visions of someone bending their arms thru 45deg
Didn't know they all had the spoiler tho what are the blades on the wiper for? they didn't have any in the shop to look at and I assumed they were for earlier/later cars without them on arm.
Cheers...melon

edited coz I don't know how to do a smilie winking DOH!!

Spoiler on the wiper does the same as the one on the arm.

I believe all Impreza Turbos have them.. both my MY96's have had them and I haven't noticed them not being on newer ones.

I know what you mean about someone bending them through 45degress..
I only litrelly mean a little bit of pressure so the arm is about 0.5degrees further bent than it was already.
Sometimes it helps and other times makes no difference but worth a try.

You could buy a wiper with the spoiler too..

I had the same problem. I use bosch wipers with spoilers on. I get a little bit of lift in the middle of the screen but its much much better. I use rain X also. They work at 100mph on private roads

It's gods way of telling you to slow down

LOL at DaveW, I seem to remember a rainy drive over a private road in the borders when everyone complained of a lack of wiperage

Andrew,

I'm sure that day there were very high side winds, nothing to do with the speed of the cars

I recently had to let me mate in an Octavia RS think he had the faster car...

Fekin wipers decided to lift at speeds above 100...
Naturally on a closed section of a private road...ish.

I will try this RainX methinks, but I've heard a few nasty stories about it smearing badly if applied in a wrong sorta way.

Any input?

/J - doesn't condone racing off the track...yadayaddayada
