gearbox/clutch
in my classic just now is an ra box i was told, its nice and tight and pulls well but 5th gear is just too short
the engine is fcking screaming over 80mph
im looking to replace the box with something abit more suited too some cruising at times
also ill be replacing the clutch/flywheel, and need somethin gthat will take up to to 350-400bhp, but probably neare the 350
i read a fair bit about normal 5 speeds not being very good?
recommendations

Yes but i do believe that RA owners who've done it pointed out that the change from 4th to 5th was too big of a gap (i may be wrong though)
Even doing this i believe you still won't get a reliable gearbox if you want 350bhp.
Have a quick word with David to see what he recommends.

There is a jump from a low geared 4th to a Non RA 5th, A bit like changing to 6th without going through 5th. BUT the .82 5th is the only close enough alternative that works and can be done cheaply.
The box has to come out to do it, it cannot be done in situ. But it is a good option.

i would be quite happy with 1st to 4th for good acceleration
david is it a kit you can sell, as im north of the border and not really economical sending the box down when the time comes?
and the rear diff doesnt need changing?
also id be changing flywheel and clutch at same time as im sure its warped - heavy judder as i pull away

So we do a mod. to open out the gear [ to match later style TY754 gears ] and put in the later, larger key. Which goes in a larger hole in the shaft, which means you need a shaft too.
So what you would buy from me is a pair of .825 5th gears at £100.00 + VAT [ £117.50 ] and a ' new ' shaft to match the key depth of the gears. That is another £100.00 + VAT [ £17.50 inc ]. Odd gaskets and seals add another £20.00 + VAT [ £23.50 inc ] Carriage depends upon your postcode Probably £12.00 + VAT [ £14.10 inc ] unless you're way way out in the wilds
But it does mean a whole box strip, not just the back housing off and a quick swap. If you have a competent gearbox person about up there, it'll not be a problem. A bit too complicated for an ' enthusiastic amateur ' Sorry!

itll be a springtime venture anyway when i can get the box out on the drive.
