weird noise from gearbox/clutch when hot
hi
im getting some weird noise from the gearbox/clutch when i try and pull off in first with about 1500rpm it sounds like two bits of metal rubbing against each other and making a whining noise it only does this when hot, fluids where changed about a year ago and all are topped up
can som1 help me?

release bearing perhaps or worn plate.. both a guess though.. do it not slip in 5th if you floor it from about 3500rpm?
Any noise when idling with foot off the clutch in neutral?? knocking etc..

hi jgm
nope no noise clutch was changed to lateral performance cllutch and lightneted flywheel about year ago, the strange thing is i cant seem to get that noise when its cold only when i rag it a bit, im thinking its aworn release bearing but it was supposed to be a 3 pice clutch the lateral one isnt it?no slippage sounds like the main drive shaft rubbing against somthing, this is waht happened: after a long drive i come to a stop then engage first it gets to the biting point then this whining rubbing like the clutch plate is draging against the flywheel noise, even after clutching down it still makes the noise after a few seconds it goes, it only happens when its hot and when reaching the biting point, could it also be a the pressure plate fingers or springs? btw my car is a my99 turbo

no idea then.. would have expected the release bearing to make noises at other times too if gone..
although it does sound like a bearing squeal? noise..
no idea on clutch plate scraping on flywheel.. I assume it is giving drive at the point it squeals? I would expect if it was the clutch plate for it to do it just before biting point. but I have never heard or experianced a clutch plate making a noise.. judder or slip but not a noise..
I'd say either release bearing or a gearbox bearing..
Yes will be a three piece clutch kit with a new release bearing but you have to grease them / the fitter does.. depends on how well they are greased etc..
You could try with a can of spray grease and a long nozzle and a torch putting some grease on the release bearing through the release fork hole in the top of the box to eliminate / confirm it stops it temporarily or quitens it down.
