Default Malfuction light came on!

Hi guys, I have recently just brought a 2002 wrx

I took her out for a drive today and a light came on the dash, and by the time I got back it had gone out!! And I am getting lag in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear !! ??

I looked in the manual and that light has something to do with the emissons.

Any info would be great !

You need to have the fault codes readby a garage, or somebody who has a tactrix cable.

If it's the EML that's been illuminated, then it's not necessarily an emissions fault - could be any one of thte engine's sensors.

Low boost is probably caused beacause the ecu has 'seen' the fault, and dropped the advance multiplier, defaulted to Failsafe fuel and ignition tables and limited boost, in an attempt to preserve itself

Im not sure if its the EML. Its a Yellow Light, above the temperture gauge.

I understand what you saying with the boost. My friend thinks it may be the co2 sensor or oxygen sensor.

Thanks

As i mentioned above, it could be any one of the engine related sensors, not necessarily emissions related.

You may need to replace something to fix the fault.
What fuel do you use and any mods?
