Default 06 sti clutch advice?

im needing a new clutch for my hawkeye sti, about 2 month ago i had a act uprated clutch and lighter flywheel fitted and to be honest its the worse thing ive ever done, its absolutely awful to drive at low speeds and biting point of clutch is near enough at the top, biggest waste of money ever
So can anyone recommend a replacement?
im wanting to get it back to how it was before but also hold the power which is currently 380bhp and 390-400lbs torque

any help would be great

Exedy Organic should just about cope with the torque level you're at.

Failing that, i'd make it future proof and fit an Exedy Twin Plate. - Not as mild mannered as a 'standard' type clutch, but very easy to live with, once it's bedded in.

Went to well over 400 lb/ft of torque on my std clutch and it worked just perfect.

WOW 400lbs torque that's a lot to put through a standard clutch. Not to sure if its going to last to long but that's only my opinion.

May be true if lots of rapid get aways are carried out.
I've been running the mid to high 300's of each for the last 40k miles and still on the original OEM clutch.

The std hawkeye sti clutch will cope with that level (and a bit more).

Incidentally I believe my clutch that was used at that level for about 45000 miles including lots of track action was then fitted to another car...

si-thee,

Strange your ACT clutch and flywheel felt like that, as i also have the same fitted to mine and must admit that now they have bedded in it feels no different to my old standard clutch??

Mind you i dont use the car as my main car or use it at a time when i sit in traffic alot, so it may be like that but never felt it.

Have you spoken to the company who sold it you or the fitter??

Im in the same boat...

I have the Organic Exedy in mine and its really doesn't feel that nice to drive

I have been told this is because the Exedy clutches miss some sort of spring which most other clutches have, so that as you make contact it gives you a little more feel and smoothness.. Rather than what we have .. the nothing nothing nothing.. judder.... bite :P

I am used to it now and I cannot fault it as a clutch, i have done a few drags and its grips all the way..

I was chatting with the guys at Powerstation and they recommended the Helix clutch.. Apparently this can handle the power but feels OEM for our sort of power lvls..

I am running around 340 and looking to head towards the 400 over the next year.. so alas a standard oem wont take that for long, from what I have been told.

So when it goes.. Helix it is for me!

Anyone got any comments on the Helix?

Vash

OE clutch should be fine, depending on how much abuse it's going to see.

The later 2.5 clutch is stronger than the 2.0 6 speed as fas as I'm aware.

I've put a 6 speed hawkeye box/clutch in my spec C and on the std clutch its currently running fine at 450/450 but not had the weather to see if it copes with the high boost setting yet but its lovely to drive now

Great to know then that the standard clutch is pretty strong on a 2.5 litre. As a lot of post I have read on here have been disappointed in some uprated ones

Hi all, I am looking at buying a Hawkeye STI, I have come from Evos in the past and one of there weaknesses is the std clutch, what sort of mileage would 'roughly' get from the std clutch that hasn't been too abuse with a modestly modified car (350ish bhp)

Cheers.

Agreed. I've been running 360/390 for pushing on 3 years and around 10k miles on my standard clutch and it is fine. It did 10k miles at standard power before that.

Bump for this post.
I'm also after the part number - 2.5 STi clutch (or full kit)?
