uprated head gaskets??
hi
Is it worth going for uprated gaskets such as Cosworth or Cometic or will the oe subaru gaskets suffice?
Also what thickness would I need on a v5 phase 2 classic?
Currently running 315/305 on a TD04H with simtek and supporting mods
Cheers
Matt

Defo seize the opp to get MLS ones in there, such as Cometic or Cosworth, as you say. I think the STi 5/6 ones are MLS too? Composite ones get a good clamp-on lol but are that much more susceptible to failure. I think the v5/6 HG is a thin'un at 0.6mm, but don't quote me!! The specialsits and merlin24 will know for sure..
How many miles has the engine done? 'Cause if around 50-60k or less then you prob can get away with just HG replacement - £850+VAT at API. If a high miler, then Dave at API said it's worthwhile getting a bottom end rebuild done at the same time, as, in his experience, the bottom end can - and usually does! - fail soon after... Prob what you don't want to hear.

btw, it'll be a TD05H. The TD04 is either a TD04 or TD04L and you'd be lucky to see 290 on it, letalone 315! That said, if it IS a TD series turbo, then someome must have fitted it, as the OEM one for your model should be a VF28 or VF29 - assuming, that is, it's a JDM car?
But, of course, if you have a UK car, then yes, it will have a TD04L front entry fitted as std.

Yeah, if you're able too, mothball her... then save for a fully forge rebuild during that time. I'd defo do that, seeing as you really need to do the bottom end in addition to the HGs - economically viable, if you inetnd to keep her for a long time and enjoy the car a lot! lol
2.1 stroker option is considered a worthwhile upgrade for the money!
