Default crank pully

ok so i jst got my car back from the garage afteer new timing belt oil plugs etc etc, and the mechanic told me the crank shaft pulley had nearly fell off! he reckoned anova 10 miles and.....well boom! so i was looking at a japspeed lightened pully 49quid and its gives 9bhp, is this BS and should i get an oem from subaru or is it free horse power? lol

i think 9bhp from just a crank pulley is a little bit over the top.they do make a slight difference in bhp but i would have thought its mainly for better throttle response.

think ima get 1 anyway as its only 49quid and it cant make the car worse, only better if its only a little bit i spose?

lightened moving parts will usually improve throttle response but there's a trade off - lighten the part, reduce the inertia it can maintain naturally. Your engine will have to work that little bit harder to maintain a top speed which results in more fuel being used. Thats part of the theory anyway. Reality is that it's doubtful that a lightened crank pulley would make a significant difference one way or another. As for 9bhp ..... i'm with carpboy - BS!

Does it look funky though?! Always a winner in my book if it looks funky
