TD05 is good - no need to upgrade that unless your going for serious power

Turbo is fine. Larger injectors, front mount intercooler and remap should see you over 300

440's out of phase 1/1.5 are straight fit yes phase 2 440's you will need an adapter kit.

And if your going for serious power your going to need more than just a remap (like a whole new engine plus brakes/gearbox/clutch etc)

No not all the same, but the ones fitted as standard to scoobs (ie yours) will be a td05 16g

Yes, the MY93-96 JDM saloons should defo have a TD05H 16G as OEM fitment. The incorrect TD04 has indeed been fitted (TD04 is fitted to MY93-96 JDM WRX wagons and all UKDM MY97-00 cars, as well as some New Age WRXs)

Because the TD04 is smaller, your car - unless it's been mapped for the TD04, or assuming it still has the original "TD05" ECU - will prob be overfuelling when on boost (i.e. out of the closed-loop Lambda parts of the map). At least this is safer than if you had a bigger turbo on and were underfuelling instead. That said, it's not good to run an inappropriate map for a turbo; whether the turbo's too large... OR too small!

Therefore, you need to check your OEM ECU's 2-digit code - to make sure it's the correct one designed for either the TD04... or TD05. If the ECU too was swapped for the one for the TD04 - and if you do refit a TD05 turbo - then make sure you swap the ECU back to the 'correct' "TD05" one too...

Yes that's right - the little square sticker on the ECU casing with a number+letter or letter+number.

I'm not too hot on which ECU was fitted to what variant, but there are plenty of members on here who are. One of the most knowledgeable being member: myblackwrx

PM/email him if desperate to know, etc...

as above it should have a tdo5, the ecu should be a 2c but could be and work fine on w6,z4,6k, the car could also have a chip fitted, which if that is the case it does not matter what ecu is fitted as the ecu reads from the chip, of course assuming the chip is correct for a tdo5,, while you are at the ecu take the lid and take a pic of the inside and post it up so we can confirm if it has a chip fitted
