350bhp from classic wrx with z4 n fmic?
hi guys,
im sorry for this as i know its a frequent question on here, but its hard to find some of the posts ive seen in the past
ive got a 93 wrx and it has......
. roger clark induction kit
. stainless custom exhaust, not sure about decat???
. baileys dump valve
. autobahn fmic with metal pipework
. close ratio straight cut gearbox
. z4 ecu, im told this is from an sti 260?
. and not sure what turbo is on it?
i want to reach as close to 350 bhp as possible, what parts would i need in addition to what I KNOW i have got, e.g i dont know what turbo is on it and need to know how i can tell?
how do i check what turbo?
what actuator?
what wastegate?
and what more can people tell me about the z4 ecu?
many thanks dave

mickywrx on here got 330ish from something similar to yours but i wouldn't recommend it but pm him to see what he says)
Your injectors won't make 350bhp.
Turbo will have an ID plate on the front housing (should be a TD05)
Z4 is from a late 94-96 wrx and rated at 260ps (256bhp).
You'll need a remappable ecu/daughterboard as well
Gearbox/clutch will be struggling so they will need upgrading, engine won't be happy as well (don't forget it's 16 years old)

ill check the plate on turbo
anybody got a pic of it?
clutch feels good at the mo with the power its got which id like to think is about 280-290 by the way its sailed past a couple of stis around my end so will leave clutch to last
with an adjustable fpr what fuel pressure should i be running, my old 1 had 1 with a gauge but never checked what it was on
anybody else with any help or comments are invited lol

mines only wrx internals , its just the ecu thats sti
so your old wxr went bang? was it sti?
i just wana get that extra 30 bhp or so for dragging at the pod and the like, i dont take it on the road much,
worse part is im skint at the mo, trying start my own business, so can only afford chap mods.

Inlet manifold off in this pic, but shows the location of the ID plate on the turbo, 16g.
Mines a wrx, with similar mods. Mines lasted 3 years now. Your's might do the same, might not though. Your choice to take.

I think the potential big issue for you upping the power from say the 280-90 level that you feel it might have is that that gearbox wont take it if it is in the origonal TY752 casing found on a MY93 WRX. Its not the gears but the casing that is weak. Has it got a later TY754 in it with the strengthened gearset in? or not? if TY754 then 300+ is doable.

Im also looking at getting my classic wrx to around 320+ bhp , is a classic running the standard td05 16g turbo at around 320bhp a quick car and have good drivability , what i mean is does it make a big difference to acceleration / feel alot quicker/better to drive compared to standard , cheers

i'm running 335bhp/325ft/lb with TD05, 440's, ESL ecu mapped to 1.5 bar, fmic, apexi power intake, later map sensor(to run over 1.1bar boost). I'm at the limit of the turbo, injectors and box, oh, and my engines just gone so past the limit of the standard internals! It gets very expensive at this level, as things start to fail.My engine rebuild is going to be £3.5k
In my opinion, a mappable ecu is a must, you tend to find you get better torque with a propper map, and the saftey.
As for performance, in my RA with the close ratio box, and less weight it's doing 60 in 4secs, plenty fast enough!
