Default PLEASE HELP 97 uk turbo rear noise prob

Hi there, I really need help with a wom wom wom noise coming from the rear of my97 uk turbo, it starts from 1st gear and gets louder as i pick up speed then kind of fades off as i change into 4th, I took it to subaru for a diagnosis and they said it was the o/s/rear wheel bearing, after spending nearly £300 I picked it up only to find that the noise was still there, they told me it was all part of the elimination process how the hell does that help me now??? I'm stuck trying to sell it but can't find the problem, PLEASE any ideas Also the tyres on the front are different than the 2 on the back, surely it cant just be that?

Poss the rear wheel bearing but when you say different tyres, do you mean different brands or different sizes?

I had the same problem on my 98 turbo. I changed the wheel bearing, did the diff oil and it was still there. It wasn't till I swapped my wheels over for my winter set that I found out it was the tyres-damn tread pattern! Try swapping you fronts for your rears and see if still makes the noise!
