Default sti8 tmic -my99

hi,anyone know what exactly is involved in fiiting the sti 8 tmic on my 99 uk wagon? ive had a quick look and obviously the mounting brackets will need changing,is it a straight forward fit other than that? do i need a different undertray? does the sti8 tmic actually fit in without having to move anything?any info on this would be excellent as i dont want to take on something to find ive got a nightmare on my hands,i know they do fit but............?

As far as I know, you need to move the clutch fluid res out of the way, but apparently there is a bracket available for this (I also wanted to do the same mod to MY99)

does that mean it needs re-pipeing?

You don't need to move it, you can cut the plastic reservoir to make it shorter.
There is a guide on here, can't think who done it. Maybe check scoobypedia.

yep.take the clutch res of and cut the bottom off!
their is also a bracket in the middle of the bulkhead under the intercooler,i had to tap the sides slightly to stop the sti intercooler hard pipes knocking under acceleration!
also on mine i had to make little brackets to sit the coil pack further forward because i wanted to keep my dump valve!
and a samco 'y' hose is alot easier to fit on to the turbo as its softer!

sounds alot but wasnt really, and looks good when its done!!

Yes. New remap required. The STi8 conversion is a good one too but a lot of work. Good luck.

99gw, have you got an aversion to FMICs? An all round better solution IMO - and 'frees' you up for large bhp later should you want it, due to the massively reduced ACTs... And, of course, not forgetting those all-important spark plugs <groan>

Oh in that case then yeah, the v.8 TM will be fine.

So long as your ISCV isn't in the way, then there's no reason why you can't use the OEM v.8's flanged recirc DV too. You'll just have get suitable lengths of flexi silicone hose/s (and possible ally reducers) to be able to fashion a return 'hose' from DV to your turbo intake elbow's recirc port, etc...

Well, I expect you'll have to use the STi 8's own undertray, to ensure the air gets directed to the STi TM properly. Prob take a bit of fettling to get it to fit properly, but if you're handy with a spanner, tin snips, etc...

Just realised: it prob will be the MY99's offset coilpack that might be an issue in fouling the STi 8 DV ....

Or get one of these:-

Impreza Zero sports undertray intercooler i/c splitter on eBay (end time 25-Nov-09 10:56:14 GMT)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IMPREZA-Zero-S...item19b7db523c

Directs air over the front of the IC, as well as the rear - for lower ACT's.

Yeah, that's why, when you factor in labour/hassle, etc., there's not much more hassle in installing a (quality) FM!

But people have their own personal reasons for still wanting a TM e.g. capped power output, OEM look, throttle response (moot point), cost savings, etc...

yeah but i already have the sti top mount and the guide that bob 5 posted up earlier dosent look to much bother really. im happy that im going tmic as i like the oe front end,and i dont want to take my stock uk block and gearbox over 350/350.there are genuine good reasons for why i chose to go tmic and just trying to gather as much info as possible and to make sure when i do the job that i have all the parts required to finish the installation as need car all the time. but i can see your point to a degree

Your 1999 oe dump valve won fit mate, dispite both valves being held on with 2 bolts , the hole in the intercooler are offset.
