Default advice on a couple of mods needed

hi folks..i have a 96 sti import running 326bhp.. after having the car about 2 weeks now i want more im hoping to get between 400-450bhp.. the mods im wanting are bigger turbo, bigger injectors and a better clutch.. ive currently got the vf23 turbo, 440cc injectors and stage 1 exedy clutch. what would you guys recommend? i was thinking 20g turbo but at 380 quid i could probably afford a bigger one so thoughts on that please. am struggling to find a decent clutch at a decent price aswell so that's the main thing i'm looking for. cheers

£380 for a 20g is this a genuine one seems cheap ???paid alot more than that for mine !!
if you want a clutch that can cope with 400bhp i would recommend the api unit and light weight fly wheel(7kg) using both of these on mine and cannot fault it

i would recommend investing in an oil cooler first based on my experience putting on a bigger turbo has increase the heat and could have cause my bottom end to gone kapoot!

and it you could afford replace the oil pump first

Base on inspection my block/piston/rods seems ok but the main & connecting bearing was eaten up and a bit of scour on the crankshaft

20g on a 2 ltr will be very laggy and i doubt would top 400bhp on pump fuel, your car would actualy be better as is.

i would get my engine/gearbox checked out before wacking a big turbo on as it could end up being costly.

you will need a 3" exhaust as well as bigger injectors, maf, fuel pressure regulator, intercooler (not sure what you have already), gearbox, remap etc to start.

400bhp plus is when it gets very expensive.

hi.. thanks for the messages people. the turbo i found was on ebay and it is brand new. i already have a mahoosive intercooler on my car thats good for 600bhp.. uprated fuel pump and injectors already but i would need bigger injectors to compensate for the turbo. i also have a 3" straight through decat, type ra downpipe, and 5'' cobra backbox. ive found pretty much everything i need except for a clutch at a decent price. i haven't had the car long so money is still tight but i'm just itching to get a little bit more power out of it..if anyone knows of any cheaper options to make big hp increase then i'm all for suggestions ha

your limit will be your engine and gearbox, to get a safe 400-450 you need a rebuild and a new gearbox, either ppg or 6 speed

Getting to 380-400 bhp is relatively easy and not too expensive to do properly. Why 450 bhp?
These are just numbers but going much over the 380-400 bracket and it becomes expensive. At 450 bhp you will break your O/E engine so you need forged pistons and steel rods just for a start plus a gearbox.
A new 20G turbo for £380. Maybe it is one of these 350 bhp examples we have come across that spools to 1 bar at 4k rpm.
550 injectors for 380-400 or 740cc beyond that.
A properly built TD05-06 20G is good for 380-400 bhp and new is around £800. Expect to pay a bit more for a new 450 bhp turbo, not less than £1100-£1200.
Clutch for 400 bhp around £320. Clutch for 450 bhp a good bit more.
Hope the above is of assistance.

Oops. At 380 bhp you will also need an FMIC. I can do you a Hybrid GT Spec for £290 along with an 05-06 20G if you want to go that way.

How does Ian Litchfield manage just over 400 with the mk2 T-25 without a front mount ?
Is it the cool air kit, the zircotec coating to reduce heat, etc ?

cheers for the message harvey, it has been an assistance.. i think it's fair to say all the feedback i've got is that it's very expensive to push the bhp past 400 so i'm thinking 380-400 would suit me fine my car already has forged pistons and fmic so i only really looking for clutch, turbo and injectors.

that's the link for the turbo i was looking at..
what clutch was you recommending for 320 quid?

cheers.

Yes Ian is doing that but not on a 96 STi import. There is a difference.

Clutch would be the Exedy Racing 40% uprated for five speed.
I am sceptical about the turbo. The words sound ok on the advert so I hope it works out in reality. That is very cheap. I sell a TD05-06 20G with all porting, water pipes and oil drain and the price is £825 and I know it is competitive and a performing turbo. Available in both 7 and 8 cm.

I won't reply to your other two posts as it is the same answer each time
