Default WRX saloon and wagon engine differences., are there any?

Just wondered if there are any differences between these, same age and either uk or jap?

Just so i know what to look out for, some one told me wagon engines are open deck and saloons closed that's all, hence saloon engines are stronger.

any input would be great.

thanks, pete

Some early wagon engines ran a higher compression ratio

Whoever told you that saloons had stronger engines is an idiot both share pretty much the same engine, the turbo's are different, the Saloon runs a TD05 and the wagon runs a TD04.
Hit or miss for the closed deck block too, normally the earlier cars (92/93) had closed deck blocks, no point in having one of those though as the internals are weak, makes naff all difference there.

Nope I had it the right way to start with (and that is for JDM) UK pre 97 (94-96 phase 1 cars) all ran TD05 turbo's, ie saloons and wagons.

Jdm cars run more power standard than uk ones. Uk 208-215 bhp. Jdm saloon 240-280ps depending on year. Most jdm wagons run between 220 -240ps.

so saying that, it must just be the ecu/chips that are different if the engines are identical?

the pre 96 import wrx engine fitted in the wagons (with a td04) had a different comp ratio to the saloon. However it will still run no problem in a saloon car with a td05 (and the correct ecu)
