Default WTF!!!!!

After a nightmare 2.5 build, finally got the car to simon for the map and the car made 372/360 at which point the injectors maxed out (550's) and there was a slip on the clutch. Injector upgrade to 740's + will solve that but my question is. Why is the clutch slipping? Its a brand new exedy organic three piece. I was advised that this would be good for 400/400 at the limit but I am nowhere near this.
Possible oil leak from the rear main but this was replaced at the build stage.
Apart from the £1500 odd clutches, are there any alternatives that will hold 400/400. Done a search but no specific info found, so any help would be much appreciated from people actually running these type of figures.
Cheers
Del

I was under the impression that the Exedy Orgainic is a 350bhp (therefore a similar lb ft peak torque figure) rated one. I'm sure API David has mentioned this in an old thread.

Even so, still surprised a new one is slipping at 'only' 360lb ft.

It isn't a price-driven eBay "special" is it

Mo mate was from an authorised exedy dealer as I didn't want to take a chance with it.
Also posted this question on SurreyScoobies and there are a few running the same clutch at over 400/400 with no probs and one has had it on his for over two years.

It may well be that it hasn't ' run in ' yet and is still wearing off high spots. Be aware though that some Exedy's are not genuine Exedy [ Chinese copies possibly ] I have heard on the ' vine ' that Exedy are worried about these cheap imports, as they are not helping the Exedy rep.

372 hp is not high for 550 injectors which at 2.95 bar ought to max out at 419 hp or thereabouts. That is a general rule of thumb rather than a fixed ' every one will do this ' type of rule. I'd have though you've still got some way to go with the injectors yet.

We are in the process of becomiing a Carbonetics dealer and their entry level single plate carbon clutch is more than adequate for your power level and is a standard single plate fit that drives like a road clutch. It is allegedly rated at 520 hp / 500 ft lbs with a cost including flywheel at £675.00 + VAT

Take a look here :Products - Carbon Clutch Single - Carbonetic UK Ltd

Carbonetic UK have no stock currently, but I expect to be able to supply within a week or so.

Thanks for the reply David.
Hopefully it is a bedding in thing as its only done around 300 miles since fitting. If not I will be in touch for something better.
Do you sell clutch kits without the flywheel, as I already have a lightened one fitted?.
Cheers

It'll be bedding in for sure. Just that I hope you haven't fried it already, as it will never settle down if overheated badly, it'll just continue to slip no matter what.

If you're brave enough; give it two " do or die " launches and make it smell, if it's fixable, that'll fix it.

Yes, I sell without a flywheel, but you may just need a quick skim to give a better mating surface for a new disc to mate to.

Ok thanks. Will put a few more miles on it and give a couple of launches but the way this car has gone, I will be in touch shortly for a new clutch

Update on slipping clutch.
On way home last night, changed gear and pedal stayed on the floor.
Had a look and the slave cylinder rod is stuck out solid and pushing the fork past its max (if that makes sense).
Anyhow had to drive the car home with no clutch.
Could the problem of the slipping clutch be just down to the slave rod not returning enough so stiil engaging the clutch slightly?
Will post in wanted for another slave cylinder unless someone has one, if you do please let me know.
Cheers

that could be a problem for sure could be slave cylinder ceased or possibly a blockage in master cylinder not allowing the presure to release, (i had this on a brake M cylinder once)

Well true to form, the car is a pain in the ****. Checked today and the slave cylinder has a burr on the piston so was not returning fully, which would cause the clutch slip. However, when the rod extended pushing the clutch fork past its max, it has pulled the release bearing clip out of the pressure plate. I thought it would be nice to me and just let me push the fork back and clip back in but no, it would not go. Even tried turning engine by hand in different positions but it still would not pop back in. Finally after a final push, (dink) I heard the clip or part of it fall into the bellhousing. I have had a belly full of this motor, so will probably sell it now, as its just one thing after another. I will probably just take a huge kick in the nuts over the price, as I just can't be arsed to break it.
Anyway, thank you all for your help and suggestions with the car.
Cheers

sorry to read of your bad luck Del.. don't sell it..

give it to Frankin stew and get him to sort the clutch.. price wise it won't be much.. sounds like you need a rest from working on it
