Default Swapping out odometers?

CAN it be done? I'm looking at maybe swapping my instruments/clocks, but the "new" ones have an odometer reading of 116,000, against mine at 85,000

Depends on which year. I know on my MY00 classic, when I swapped over the clocks I went down about 40K
I naturally assumed that the mileage was in the ECU or in some other magic box, but apparently not.

The mileage is stored on a custom CPU on the instrument cluster circuit board. Alcazar: If you're talking about swapping from one MY99/00 instrument cluster to another, then theoretically you could swap the PCB over (although I suspect it would be a right *rs* to do).

However, if you're doing that, it raises the question of exactly why you're swapping from one perfectly good 99/00 instrument set to another. If you're considering swapping from a UK format cluster(speedo in centre) to an STi (tacho in centre) one, then it won't work.

Also, just on the offchance, don't forget that MY98 clocks aren't compatible with 99/00 and vice versa.

Yes, it's the second option, UK clocks to STi. The car is a 98 UK car, phase 1.5, ie: it has the white faced, electronic speedo clocks.

I've been told I can swap the clocks but need a bit of loom off a version 4 STi to make it work? (Apparently, it has plugs/sockets at both ends, and seems to be an adpator that Subaru themselves used?)

Anyone know any problems with this? Splitpin? You seem a knowledgeable bloke

Can't answer that one I'm afraid. Daresay the likes of Grade A or APi will know as they must have provided the bits to customers in the past.

alcazar

if you are swapping to jdm sti clocks you may need a speed convertor as well.

as you know i had uk clocks and when i swapped them with the wiring loom behind (it's about 10cm-15cm long) to the jdm sti ones i had to fit one as well.

if you get that far and you need to know where it's fitted (as in the wires you have to cut) give me a shout and i'll send you a picture of mine.

with regards to the milage i think you will find if you look in the back of the auto trader you will find many people who can alter the odometer clocks. my car had 58k on the clock it now has 113k so i am thinking of doing the same but more in line with how many miles my engine has done so i can make sure servicing is at the correct time.

if you don't manage to sort out a loom just thought you can come and change your wrx pinouts so they match mine.
