Not sure what the Subaru recommended is.

But I'm sure any of these would be okay:-

5W-30
5W-40
5W-50 (if there's such a combo?)
10W-40
10W-50
15W-40
15W-50

If it was me, Id opt for a 10W-50 or Motul's 300V Competition 15W-50. Don't use an oil with a 'hot' weight of 60, though!

Subaru put out a bulletin some time ago recommending dealers now used 10W40 for all newage subarus.

My recommend for a modified newage making 400 is Millers CFS 10W60 or Redline 10W50.

I use Millers CFS 10W-40 from ZEN, for the record (that's in a Classic though)

No need to go thicker then SAE40 on an 06 model.

We would recommend 5w-40 synthetic for all year round use.

Cheers

Guy, just a quickie...

Why are New Ages recommended 5W-30 or 5W-40... Whilst the Classic 'common' weights seem to be pretty much: 10W-40, 10W-50 or 15W-50? What's so different about their respective engines, or whatever?

Generally its because the old classic ones are for lack of a better word often more tired (engine tollerance wise) and are happier on a slightly thicker grade, of course this does not apply to all cases.

Yep, if the engine is in good shape no reason not to use 5w-40.

If it is heavily modified or used hard on track then I would go thicker.

Cheers

si-thee, read the posts by JGM earlier on... I expect you'll be sticking in 15W-50 Motul 300V Competition afterwards!

EDIT: Oops, those posts were in another thread, lol. Basically, he clocked up massive milages on an engine (or two?) One engine was std initially, then seriously modded, and it saw a fair old mileage on the 300V Comp...

Hoot!

Make sure you get a genuine Subaru filter (don't forget a new sump washer too .)

Its very good, but if the car is a daily driver you would be better off with the Silkolene Pro S 10w-50 as the 10w will flow better from cold then a 15w.

Silkolene Pro S 10W-50 Ester Synthetic Oil

At the moment we don't have any deals that are really going to suit you, but there is a big offer on from Friday. I don't know the details, but it's going to be a discount on the price. If you're not already registered on the website, make sure you are so you get the details emailed out.
