Default Diesel Impreza Tuning???

Dear Forum,

I am considering swapping my 07 WRX for a diesel Impreza, so I can use my 08 STi while my wife gets the diesel.

However the current performance of the diesel appears a little pedestrian. HAs anyone tried mapping or tunning the diesel yet?

What I want is WRXs with diesel economy. Any news thoughts etc....

Pics would be nice as the current spec look very shop mobility.

Turbo diesel is totally different to a petrol turbo (no sh*t).

Diesel has a pathetic, narrow power band - usually between about 4k and 5.5k or thereabouts. You just get going, then it's all gone in an instant. It's the mammoth torque which turbo diesels produce within that band, that scoot you along. (I personally can't abide a 'performance' turbo diesel's delivery.)

But as far as bhp goes, then I'm sure a remap will bring you up to WRX's 225bhp... and have tons of torque to boot...

No kiding about the powerband, I test drove the Golf TDI, and everytime the engine woke up you had to change gear. However my wife does not need to worry about things like that, and a diesel would suit her down to the ground.

There were rumours that the diesel would become the replacement for the WRX......

Does anyone know if you can transplant the diesel motor into a normal car (obviously with all the attendant fuelling components). I mean would it be possible to keep the gear box and transmission of a normal scoobie. Just thinking:

Hawkeye looks + diesel economy and lazy torque = Perfect Commuter car?

It seems Subaru are selling as many Diesel engined cars as they can supply, but they are suffering valve train issues. This is resulting in recalls and in line with this STi have been delaying upgrades/modifications to the diesel engines.

I know STi had in mind a P&P ECU for the '09 Impreza diesel that was supposed to give 185hp and loads more torque, but that seems to have gone quiet recently....

Also as far as im aware, a petrol gearbox wont bolt up to the diesel, for some reason they have altered the stud pattern. Also front X Members are very different to accomodate the new electric PAS (which also has its own ECU on the column....!)
