Question

I have a my99 uk with the link ecu fitted.

I was informed that there is an immobiliser in the original ecu which is linked to your remote on the keys.

The question is have I now only got 1 x immobiliser on the car.

Help.

On mine the led stopped flashing when I put the keys in etc so I think the immobilser still works

BTTT.

Did you check if the led flash inside the clock section before you put the key in. If not pop up and we can compare lights. Was told that the ecu does need reprogramming but it is only a 20-30 min all in !

Did you do the thing with the dipswitches on the link ecu? These are what set the immobiliser options.

I have a uk my99 with link, and the immobiliser works exactly the same - same flashing of lights, turning on the ignition then pressing the button on the key fob to clear etc

Dip switches are nothing to do with the imobiliser. Link should not affect the old style cars factory imobiliser at all.

Question

Bob, Why not ? Does the immobilser work through the ecu or not. It is just I have been told if I swap to a my99 ecu in my my00 I need to have the keys reprogrammed.

Dave.

Question

Ok, where exactly is the imobiliser? Within the stock ECU? If I have binned my ECU, surely my imobiliser is no more?

Please sort out us confused...

Patience ... not everyone stares at Scoobynet all day.

Having swapped standard ecu's in and out of several different cars I have never found that a key needs reprogramming and the imobilisers always still work, so answer is no its not in the ecu in the MY99/00.

Woa, I managed not to kill a thread for once! Thanks Bob for the answer... although I do think people stare at Scoobynet all day, it's just with so many threads about it's difficult to find the important ones...
