Default Engine Overheating after turbo swap #HELP

O.k
Just swapped out a knackerd old td04 with a td05-16g(known working) put it in and got the usual steam from coolant lost and thought nothing of it, topped up the coolant and away I went.
Engine is now overheating, is it as simple as an air lock?

Any ideas?

It certainly sounds like it.

You obviously need to check for any coolant leaks, but if the system is water tight then carry out the following & it will puge the system of any air locks you may have...

On a cold engine, remove the header tank pressure cap & top up the tank to about 3/4... Start the engine, turn the heater controls to hot and run the heater control fan in position 1... Turn off the air con if fitted.

From under the bonnet, manually open the throttle linkage and run the engine at around 2000 - 2500 rpm (you may want to use a cloth as it could get a bit warm towards the end of the procedure!)... You need to hold this rpm until the thermostat opens ( you will know when the stat opens as the top hose will get hot and you will see steam coming from the header tank accompanied by a definate flow of fluid through it.

At this point you need to keep the revs up whilst topping up the header tank to within an inch of the top & then refit the pressure cap... Allow the rpm to drop to idle.... Now check the overflow tank (by the battery) and ensure it is at the correct level (ie between the min max marks).

Your cooling system is now clear of any air or air locks in the system.

Phil

You need to rebleed the water system as takin the turbo of would of droped aload of water,

You can do this by removing the hose that goes to the turbo, hold it high and pour water into it, untill your header tank starts to fill, and water starts to come out where you have just taken the pipe of.

Run car, check heaters work + stat opens, job done.
