Question Can you get the impreza burble from a 1998 2.0 sport?

Hi everyone i'm new here having just bought my first impreza!

Dark green 1998 2.0 sport with the best service history i've ever seen on a vehicle!

Anyway the car has standard everything and doesnt have that nice loud impreza burble which i love so much.

Can i get this sound from my 2.0 sport as it is the 16v engine just non turbo?

Any suggestions for mods etc much appreciated.

cheers,
chris

Also forgot to ask....
Do these impreza's have a system on the clutch where if you stop on the footbrake and hold the clutch down to the floor it will hold the car and prevent it from rolling back until you lift the clutch as this is what mine does and i know of no other car that does this :s

yeah some of the non-turbo subarus have that, it's called hill-holder or something.

Not sure about the burble - it will either be you need a more free-flowing exhaust (back box might be enough) or the headers might be the wrong sort.

i have heard a sport with the burble so just wondered if there was anyway of making my 2.0 sport do it

with the engine on tick over or at low revs you can hear a very slight burble?

if your sport has unequal length headers(not sure if they do or dont),fitting a aftermarket back box will give you the burble,

Sports have equal length headers. You need to get some un-equal length ones (got my missus's ones from the states via ebay fro £160) and a back box. That will release the burble.

Going to have to try the brake / clutch thing tonight. I've never noticed it before. My WRX definatley doesn't have it.

no the turbo models don't have it - I think it's only the models with a hi/low ratio option box that have it?

Anything with drum brakes and a cable operated clutch clutch will have it you can see the mechanism on the N/S chassis rail with brake pipes and a cable on it.

They are easy enough to fit if you are mechanically minded. The bolds holding the old headers on will be rusted to hell and will be a pig to get off. Once that is done, the rest is pretty straightforward. Only other mod to do is cut the plastic undertray, which is self explantory when you offer it back up you can see where it needs to be relieved. I followed a guide on imprezasport.net - loads of good tips on there.

Most on the internet are from turbo models..
Would a turbo back box fit providing its for the same age of car?

anyone had any experience of the race tube from cobra sport exhausts?

ExhaustsUK: Suppliers of Cobra Sport Performance Exhausts

Its product number is SU 25 just over half way down the product list.

Would this be road legal as there is no rear box just a loud pipe ;-)

Asking on the wrong site really. Imprezasport is a better site for the sport, 99.9% turbo stuff on here. If its any help I'm going to be fitting a turbo back box to the missus's Sport soon. I read a lot of people have so it can't be that bad Have heard all you have to do is elongate the holes in the flange joint as the turbo system is 2.5" opposed to 2" for the Sport. But to be honest I haven't been arsed to even climb under her car yet to have a look. The back-box has been sat in the shed for a while now
