Default 400+ bhp ej20?

After my last 1999 uk wrx got smashed up by a stupid mate who just couldnt handle standard power i realised i wouldnt be able to afford another impreza turbo especially now i have kids.Recently i got given a ej20 wrx turbo with a td05 turbo on been told its uk spec but not sure.It had the common problem of one piston melting to the fact that i beleive is the low octane fuel here in uk.I am going to rebuild and fit in to hopefully in a ra shell.I need to know what parts i should upgrade, fit or i can keep to reach the power of 400+bhp and to be quite reliable?also how to i tell which tdo5 turbo do i have eg. 16g or 20g?as hopefully be able to use as it was fitted until he blew head gaskets?cheers chris

I think he's suggesting that the parts alone will be very expensive. I'm just putting my sti back together going for 350bhp at the most and that's costing me a couple of grand in bits to do it right. 400bhp will be loads more expensive as it'll eat gearboxes unless you spend a fair bit upgrading the box and clutch or swapping to a 6 speed. that's without the engine mods.

Im running 410bhp but in a 2.0 litre 2002 STI and cost the guts of 8k to get that far

You have some many things to upgrade ie the brakes on your classic will need upgraded to brembos or similar, your suspension you will be looking STI struts and springs or coilovers for better handling, other bits i upgraded were Whiteline Droplinks and ARB's all round.

You will need a 6 speed gearbox too im sure.

Im running an APS SR 40 Ballbearing Turbo,
550cc Injectors
OBX Equal length stainless steel headers
3 inch uppipe
3" miltek exhaust system
SX Fuel Pressure regulator
AVCR Bost controller running 1.6bar
APS Cast Iron CAK with K & N Induction
Hyperflow Top Mount Intercooler
Ecutek remap (twice)
Uprated Exedy Stage 1 clutch and flywheel

Other parts i have forgot im sure.

When i had my early classic i was running 350bhp and ran a standalone ECU, so you may need one of those too.
